JUNIOR PLAYER INSURANCE PROGRAM

Personal Accident Insurance

Who is covered?

All Registered Players, Coaches, Voluntary Referees, Declared Officials, Administrators and Voluntary Workers, of Junior Clubs or Local Leagues affiliated with the Queensland Rugby League and its Divisions.

Age limits?

6 years and under 70 years

When & where is cover provided?

The policy runs for the period 4pm 31st December 2006 to 4pm 31st December 2007 and provides worldwide (excluding USA & Canada) coverage for “Injury” (refer below definition) whilst involved in the following QRL sanctioned Rugby League (including Rugby League Sevens and League Tag) activities or events:

  • Playing in official club & representative games.

  • Participating in training or practice sessions, or official functions.

  • Travelling to or from club and representative games, training, meetings or official functions. (Limited to 20% of the applicable Capital Benefit)

  • Engaged in activities connected with the sport whilst staying away from home during a tour for the purpose of participating.

  • Engaged in authorised voluntary work / committee meetings.

  • Playing in trial games of the players own club and/or any game in which the player is participating in an attempt to be graded for an NRL club. 

Note: Schoolboy football and end of season social trips are not covered under this policy.

“Injury” means bodily injury which:

  • Is sustained by an Insured Person during the Period of Insurance and while they are covered as an Insured Person under this policy; and

  • Results from an Accident and is caused by sudden, violent, external and visible means; and

  • Occurs solely and directly and independently of any other cause, including any illness, sickness, disease, pre-existing physical or congenital conditions or heatstroke, except illness or sickness directly resulting from, or medical or surgical treatment rendered necessary by such Injury; and              

  • Occurs whilst they are engaged in the above listed sanctioned activities.

What is covered?

Capital Benefits

Under this section, the cover provides $150,000 for injuries that result in death.  All other permanent disabilities are calculated using a percentage of the death benefit depending on the severity of the injury.  For full details of these percentages, please refer to the Events Schedule contained in the policy wording.  Please Note - Event 1 Death is limited to $10,000 for insured persons whose age is less than 18.

Loss of Income

Under this section the cover pays 85% of the insured person’s actual weekly income, up to a maximum of $250 per week, subject to a 14 day deferral period.  Please note that income earned from participating in the sport of Rugby League is not covered.  The benefit will be paid for the period of the Total Disablement as certified by a registered medical practitioner or 52 weeks whichever is the lesser.

Home Help Expenses

Under this section the cover reimburses 100% of the actual costs incurred for Home Help from a recognised and licensed Domestic Help Agency, up to a maximum of $250 per week and subject to a 14 day deferral period.  The benefit will be paid for the period of the Total Disablement as certified by a registered medical practitioner or 52 weeks whichever is the lesser.

Full Time Student Assistance Benefit

Under this section the cover reimburses 100% of the cost of Home Tutorial by a qualified tutor, up to a maximum of $250 per week and subject to a 14 day deferral period.  The benefit will be paid for the period of the Total Disablement as certified by a registered medical practitioner or 52 weeks whichever is the lesser.

Non-Medicare Medical Expenses

Under this section the cover reimburses 80% of medical treatment up to a maximum of $2,000.  All treatment must be certified by a registered medical practitioner and not subject to any Medicare rebate.  All claims are subject to a $50 excess for those claimants who don’t have private health insurance and a nil excess applies for those claimants who have private health insurance.  Any expenses must be incurred within 12 months of the insured person sustaining the injury.

Parents Inconvenience Allowance

Under this section the cover reimburses $15 per day in-patient benefit to a full time student up to age 20 for continuous confinement in hospital because of an injury.  The benefit is limited to $1,500 and there is no cover for the first 24 hours.

Funeral Benefit

Covering funeral expenses incurred up to the sum insured per funeral.  The benefit is limited to $2,000.

Public & Products Liability Insurance

Who is covered?

Queensland Rugby Football League Limited, its Divisions, affiliated Local Leagues and Clubs, All Registered Players, Coaches, Committee Members, Declared Officials, Referees and Voluntary Workers.

When & where is cover provided?

The policy runs for the period 4pm 31st December 2005 to 4pm 31st December 2006 and provides cover Worldwide (excluding USA & Canada).

What is covered?

  • Public Liability

  • Products Liability

  • Property in Care, Custody or Control

Covering your legal liability to pay compensation for Personal Injury, Property Damage, and/or Advertising Liability, that happens during the period of insurance which is caused by an occurrence in connection with the Insured’s premises or business (sport of Rugby League including Rugby League Sevens & League Tag).

You must be aware that the policy provides cover for administration and the development, promotion, organisation and conducting of Rugby League (including Rugby League Sevens & League Tag) games and coaching courses and/or clinics.

It is important to understand that all social & fundraising activities other than BBQ’s after games & training and raffles must be referred to the insurer via this office for approval.  Should your Club conduct any fundraising or social events other than those mentioned you must contact OAMPS LASER at least 2 weeks prior to the event so that we may refer to the Insurer.  Depending on the event/activity referred you may be required to take out additional cover.  The cost of any additional cover (if any) will be determined on a per case basis.

Participant Liability

  • Protects the insured against those sums for which it becomes legally liable to pay because of actions brought against it by a participant whilst competing and/or practicing in an insured activity.  This insurance does not apply to claims or incidents brought by one participant against another participant for personal injury or property damage occurring whilst competing and or practicing in the sport of Rugby League.

Tenants Liability

  • Protects the insured in regard to its legal liability incurred from its occupation of its rented premises. This liability protection does not apply to liability, which is assumed under an agreement or lease unless that liability would have attached without such agreement or lease.  (Please refer to “Venue User Agreement” contained in the Tear Out Documents section of this Handbook)

Property Owners Liability

  • Protects the insured for its legal liability arising from ownership of the premises.

Property in Care, Custody or Control

  • Relates to legal liability for damage to property in your care, custody or under your legal control.  This section does not cover malicious damage caused by the Insured or repair of Insured’s work that was incorrectly or inadequately or defectively performed on or in respect of it.

Advertising Liability

  • Protects the Insured for such things as Libel, Slander or Defamation (not made with the prior knowledge of the falsity thereof); infringement of patent, copyright design or title or slogan; privacy or unfair competition or idea misappropriation under an implied contract; any invasion of right of privacy where occurring unknowingly and unintentionally and committed or alleged to have been committed during the period of insurance in any advertisement, publicity articles, broadcast or telecast and arising out of the activities of Rugby League.

Sums Insured

Public Liability:                  $10,000,000 any one occurrence during the period of insurance.

Products Liability:              $10,000,000 any one occurrence and in the aggregate during the period of insurance.

Property in Care,
Custody or Control:            $50,000 any one occurrence.

Excesses:                         $500 each & every occurrence.

Note: Excesses applying are the responsibility of the defending party and will not be paid by the QRL.

How to obtain a certificate of currency?

Simply contact OAMPS Laser on 1800 SPORT 1 (1800 776 781) or email craig.hodgson@oamps.com.au and advise the full legal entity name of your club together with details of where the Certificate is to be forwarded.

Directors & Officers Liability Insurance (Optional)

Who is covered?

Any natural person who has been, now is or shall become a elected director or trustee, elected or appointed officer, employee, or committee member (whether or not salaried) of participating QRL affiliated Local Leagues and Clubs, any natural person acting in a voluntary capacity on behalf of participating QRL affiliated Local Leagues and Clubs and at the specific direction of such organisations.

When & where is cover provided?

2005 policyholders

Policy runs from 4pm 5th February 2006 to 4pm 5th February 2007 provided the completed proposall form (refer to “tear out documents” section) and payment are received in this office by 28th Feb  2006.  Policy provides Australia wide cover.

New applicants

Policy runs from the later of 4pm 5th February 2006 or date the completed proposal form (refer to “tearr out documents” section) and payment are received in this office through to 4pm 5th February 2007.  Policy provides Australia wide cover.

What is covered?

Covering on behalf of an insured all loss which such insured becomes legally obligated to pay on account of any claim first made against the insured during the policy period, for:

  1. a Wrongful Act,

  2. Employment Practices, or

  3. Personal Injury or Publishers Liability,

committed, attempted, or allegedly committed or attempted, by such Insured before or during
the Policy period.

Sum Insured:                          $1,000,000 any one claim

                                             $5,000,000 in the annual aggregate                                        

Deductible:                            $2,500 each and every claim

Note: Excesses applying are the responsibility of the defending party and will not be paid
by the QRL.

Exclusions:                           

·  Bodily injury / property damage (Employment Practices Liability carve back)

·  Prior claims and or known circumstances

·  Deliberate and fraudulent acts

·  Failure to maintain insurance

·  Contractual liability

How much does it cost?

Clubs:

         $260 for Clubs holding stamp duty exemption

         $275 for Clubs without the exemption

Local Leagues:

         $395 for Leagues holding stamp duty exemption

         $415 for Leagues without the exemption

Acceptance Criteria         

·    Club/League must be incorporated

·    Liabilities must not exceed assets

·    Policy does not extend to cover the business operation of full time licensed clubs
